R&D impact: a numbers game?

Article Abstract:

Democrats argue that continued funding of technology projects with social benefits is necessary to encourage industrial research and development finance. Republicans maintain that tax and regulatory policies can increase corporate funding of research. However, both views are unproven.

NSF to take closer look at how support shapes careers

Article Abstract:

An NSF review of how the mode of support for graduate science students affects their career success found little useful information for deciding which support methods to use. NSF plans to evaluate the effectiveness of pilot programs on graduate student support.
