Reductive dehalogenation of aliphatic halocarbons by lignin peroxidase of Phanerochaete chrysosporium

Article Abstract:

The dehalogenation of aliphatic halocarbons trichloroethylene (TCE) and CCl4 by lignin peroxidase of Phanerochaete chrysosporium was investigated. It is shown that TCE and CCl4 were mineralized by ligninolytic P. chrysosporium. In addition, other highly oxidized hydrocarbons were reductively dehalogenated during the reductive reaction. There are indications that the intermediaries in the process are not harmful to the environment.

Genotoxicity profiles and reaction characteristics of potassium polyethylene glycol dehalogenation of wood preserving waste

Article Abstract:

The use of potassium polyethylene glycol (KPEG) for the dehalogenation of pentachlorophenol-containing wood preserving waste was investigated. The results showed that KPEG was effective in dehalogenating the pentachlorophenol contained in the waste material. In addition, it was found that dehalogenation using KPEG decreases, but does not completely eliminate, waste genotoxicity during treatment.
