Removal of chloro and nitro aromatic wastewater pollutants by ozonation and biotreatment

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of ozonation and biotreatment in removing a variety of chloro- and nitro-substituted aromatic wastewater pollutants was investigated. The results showed that degradation and elimination rates were higher at pH 7 than those at pH 2 and pH 12. After elimination of the aromatic compounds, the concentration of dissolved ozone dramatically increased. Combined ozonation-biotreatment resulted in the mineralization of recalcitrant chloro and nitro aromatics.

Group contribution method for predicting equilibria of nonionic organic compounds between soil organic matter and water

Article Abstract:

Prediction partition coefficients for nonionic organic compounds between soil organic matter (SOM) and water are defined using a group contribution model. The model is a modification of the UNIFAC method for finding activity coefficients and integrates compound chemical structure and SOM representative structure. Sorption equilbrium is predicted using the modified model.
