Researchers win decision on knockout mouse pricing

Article Abstract:

GenPharm International will begin to allow researchers to breed knockout mice for a fee rather than buying them from the biotechnology company. The problem of intellectual property rights restricting access to research materials was an issue at a Mar 1993 National Academy of Sciences meeting.

Stewart and Feder were reassigned when they accused a University of Massachusetts historian of plagiarism. The professor, Stephan Oates challenged their ability to criticize a non-science case. He took his protest to Congress. The NHI agreed that the scientists had gone beyond their mission.
