Sticking points

Article Abstract:

Adhesives technology is not properly popularized in the UK and hence it is not widely used. Most British engineers believe that rivets and weldings, rather than adhesive bonding, increase the stability of the structure. Adhesive bonding is equally strong and can join dissimilar materials, perform automatic scaling and provide smooth finish to the product. However, adhesives cannot be used for all purposes as the design of the joint must be suited for the bonding processes.

True costs of health and safety

Article Abstract:

Few companies operate financial control systems to identify and control the costs of accidents and ill-health at work, according to a the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) report. The report shows that the cost of accidents and ill health at work can amount to 37% of the annual profit. Occupational ill health is increasingly due to non specific causes and could be prevented by increased awareness and using safer materials.
