Article Abstract:
Research on image retrieval in a database has taken several directions. One direction developed algorithms based on color and texture, while those based on object recognition based their algorithms on perceptual groupings to add a spatial aspect to color-based image-recognition algorithms.

Digital television: here at last
Article Abstract:
A new form of broadcasting system called digital television (DTV) is being introduced in the US. DTV offers much sharper picture and sound than the conventional TV. It also provides auxiliary channels for data and easy connection to TV communications networks and computers.

Integrated services digital network (ISDN) has the capability of providing voice conversation, faxes and computer data over one telephone line. ISDN will be available in some US cities late in 1992, with limited service in most large cities in 1993.
