Seismic guidelines impact Los Angeles wharf design

Article Abstract:

The design of the Pier 300 container wharf is a result of a comprehensive seismic and geotechnical study of the area of the Port of Los Angeles. The wharf is part of the port's 2020 Plan. CH2M Hill Inc was awarded the contract for Pier 300 and its construction is scheduled for the early part of 1995. This structure is the first to avail of the research provided by such a study, and is costed at four million dollars.

Design/build meets hazardous waste: The game plan for successful, timely hazardous waste cleanup requires a team approach

Article Abstract:

Hazardous waste cleanup projects have several project drivers, and projects require a design/build approach based on team integration and the settling of common goals. The roles of various participants will be linked and decisions will be made on a real-time basis. Four different approaches are described, including the classic design/build team approach, and a limited liability company approach.
