Self-assembling materials

Article Abstract:

Experts predict that a new manufacturing technique called 'self-assembly' will one day allow machines and materials to make themselves. With this technique, atoms, molecules and their aggregates arrange themselves into ordered functioning entities without human intervention.

The once and future nanomachine

Article Abstract:

The inspiration for nanotechnology found in molecular biology is discussed. The possibility of nanoscale submarines, capable of healing diseased cells, and nanoscale machines or assemblers, capable of atom-scale fabrication, is explored.
