Sludge under pressure
Article Abstract:
San Diego, CA, required a new sludge processing plant and pipeline to handle its increasing sludge production. The project entailed environmental concerns, corrosion problems and adherence to distance requirements from existing utilities. The engineers conducted pre-construction studies and mitigation programs with city officials and other concerned professionals. They then opted for ductile iron pipe with polyethylene lining for its good track record for sludge pipeline service, its durability, availability and easy installation. The pipeline's finished section has performed well during field tests.
