Small utility GIS

Article Abstract:

Amedium-sized water utility company relates their considerations in choosing a particular geographic information system (GIS). Given their limited resources, as is the case for small companies, the decision to adopt a software that efficiently combines mapping and database abilities is tempered by cost saving calculations. In this particular case, there were five main cost saving aspects of a GIS considered for their problems with their hydraulic analysis software. A selection was made and the automation of their operational facilities was started.

Sewer related problems in Miami, Okla. and Fort Scott, Kan. are discussed. Steps taken by the concerned authorities in these two regions are given.
