Soul music: nothing stirs the Canadian psyche like the cry of the loon

Article Abstract:

All of Canada's mainland provinces and Newfoundland have breeding populations of the common loon. They are well known for their vocal displays which incorporate four distinct calls, each delivering a different message.

Article Abstract:

Many birds can be located by the sounds that they make. Experienced birders may also be able to identify a bird by the sound that it makes while it is eating. Notoriously hard to sight, the spruce grouse may be located by the snapping of the coniferous needles as it eats.

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented of the osprey, with particular focus on its nesting and fishing skills. An osprey nest is one of the largest structures built by any bird, in which an average of three eggs are laid. The skill of the bird in catching fish results in a 90% success rate in some regions.
