Step this way

Article Abstract:

Scotland's Honeywell Newhouse uses a specially-designed, step-by-step absorption of product data management (PDM) processes covering a diverse product range which includes control switches and sensors, timers and boiler regulators. Approximately 50 or 60 product families are listed in the base product line which also functions as a design center, creating products for manufacture in other countries. Newhouse's PDM project plan is divided into three phases which include a changeover to its newer Metaphase PDM system and a final phase which integrates both PDM and manufacturing control sytems.

Watch on the line

Article Abstract:

The automated production control system installed by pharmaceuticals concern SmithKline Beecham at its facility in Irvine, Scotland, has a wide range of advanced features. It is able to monitor and control pH, flows and pressures, and is able to ensure seamless transition from one stage of production to the next. The company has also upgraded the Siemens H1 and Ethernet network that connects all the Texas Instruments PLCs to the Siemens SIMATIC production control system (PCS). Maintenance data has also been integrated into the PCS platform.

Keeping track of data

Article Abstract:

Concurrent engineering enables forms to accelerate and coordinate the design-to-production process, but it requires vast amounts of information to be active at all times. Document image processing and engineering data management help ensure that everyone is working with the same, valid data. The CADCAM Integration '93 Conference seeks to help managers restructure to exploit their companies' knowledge bases and create clear ways to coordinate information.
