Strategic planning, strategic goals and group decision support systems: a business school case study

Article Abstract:

The management of Australian universities did not as a rule focus on formal long-range strategic planning and positioning as they were highly protected, extremely insular and nearly totally dependent on government financing. A broad-based deregulation program launched by the Australian government in the 1980s placed these universities in an increasingly competitive situation with each other and with other leading universities outside of the country. A study of Curtin Business School shows how one institution responded to the challenges posed in a deregulated climate in terms of strategic planning.

The use of a structured planning model to develop high-quality goals in a quality-implementation programme

Article Abstract:

The measurement system of KVALIT, an improvement programme of 28 Norwegian companies in the IT industry, has been helpful in planning and reporting on project status. The system works within a structural planning framework, which states the quality goals and divides them into sub-goals. The limitations of the system, however, include the diffculty of arriving at an accurate rate of the project's progress and the difficulty of estimating the financial yield of a progress measure.
