Tax cut legislation could affect all employees

Article Abstract:

The Senate and the House passed the Financial Freedom Act that would provide $792-billion in tax cut over 10 years despite Pres Clinton's threat that he will veto such a large measure. The main provision of the approved bill is a reduction in marginal income taxes by one percentage point. The 15% rate would drop to 14.5% by 2001 and 14% by 2003. The new law will also phase out inheritance taxes over a period of ten years until these are fully repealed by 2009. Health insurance premiums for the self-employed would also be fully deductible by Jan 1, 2000.
