Technology assessment: a concept for Europe?

Article Abstract:

The practice of technology assessment (TA) in Europe remains 'diverse and fragmented.' This is revealed in a survey concerning the similarities and differences between the TA expertise and TA research activities in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, UK and Denmark. The poll, which provided evidence that TA connects science, technology and policy, also shows that TA research and policy-making is decentralized in Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

High technology organization - what it is, what it isn't

Article Abstract:

Classifications of high technology organizations (HTO) suggested by academic scholars are examined and clarified. HTOs have apparently become the elite at the organizational level. Characteristics of a typical HTO are found to be the existence of internal R&D as a large share of organizational operations, a high portion of academic and professional staff and advanced technology as the area of activity, with a significant lead on technology developments.

Forms of technology and effectiveness of infertility clinics

Article Abstract:

Evaluation of infertility clinics using in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and micro surgical (MS) procedures reveals that technology is a possible contingency factor in assessing healthcare clinic effectiveness. The study reveals that patient and staff assessment of the IVF clinic is lower than that of the MS clinic on almost all dimensions that suggests that different technology forms influence clinic effectiveness perspectives.
