Managers are expecting to turn more to information science to help them make decisions. The generation of managers who came to their positions before computers became common will give way to a group of managers who have begun analyzing the best way to use the technology for competitive advantage. Information system experts and management science specialists should work together now to develop the system of the future, a database and flow system which will provide flexibility and expansion potential.

Article Abstract:

Detailed steps for building a foundation for high performance is presented. The steps include building a base for committment, getting sanctions and joint commitment, establishing a parallel design structure, assessing specific needs, developing guiding principles, getting key stakeholder endorsement, implementing changes and keeping it going. The steps are from a model developed for manufacturing industries but is also applicable to other organizations.
