Self-service gas stations account for about 90% of all gasline purchases in the U.S. Self-serve technology, controlled by mostly by electronics, has remained basically unchanged since its introduction in 1947.

War and peace among the pinnipeds: visiting the wildlife of Ano Nuevo

Article Abstract:

The elephant seal population at Ano Nuevo State Reserve in California is the largest in the Northern Hemisphere. The reserve offers visitors an opportunity to see the mammals up close, and observe their behavior.

The aborted crime wave? A controversial article links the recent drop in crime to the legalization of abortion two decades ago

Two Yale University economists have written a paper, 'Legalized Abortion and Crime,' that credits the legalizationof abortion in 1973 with the drop in crime in the 1990s. The authors believe that the reduction in unwanted children has been the key element.
