The anti-music of the aerospheres

Article Abstract:

Georgia Tech aerospace engineers are trying to develop noise dampening devices based on ceramic beads. Financially supported by NASA Langley Research Center, engineers have created a shroud-like acoustic liner which promises to control sound waves emitted by industrial equipment, aircraft, motor vehicles and household product. The ceramic aerospheres successfully block noise from jet nozzles but will melt or burn at high temperatures.

Symphony orchestras and artist-prophets: cultural isomorphism and the allocation of power in music

Article Abstract:

An analysis is presented on the influence of group identity on artistic expression and social power, using the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as an example. The orchestra, which bars women and minorities, demonstrates that the interrelationship between authority and aesthetics is culturally isomorphic in respect to dominant values within society.

A description is presented on 'Cathedral,' an extended musical work existing as Web sites. Launched in 1997, the site includes both computer and acoustic music, as well as virtual instruments contributors have created.
