The birth of the mighty Amazon

Article Abstract:

Insight into how the world's largest river, Amazon formed is helping scientists explain the extraordinary abundance of plant and animal life in the Amazon rain forest. Many researchers contend that the incipient river nourished a multitude of interconnected lakes in the continent's midsection before forging a direct connection to the Atlantic Ocean.
