The evolution of the periodic system: from its origins some 200 years ago, the periodic table has become a vital tool for modern chemists

Article Abstract:

The history of the periodic table of elements is presented. The periodic table developed by Russian chemist Dimitri Ivanovich Mendeleev remains the basis for the classification of elements, despite the repeated attempts to develop a new system of classification.

Building molecular crystals

Article Abstract:

Scientists are trying to find out how molecular crystals are formed, and what practical properties they contain. Research includes predictions of positive-and-negative-charged molecules, and the technology may be useful in developing minute electronic devices.

How should chemists think?

Article Abstract:

Modern chemists must decide whether to focus on natural or man-made molecules in their investigations. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach are explored through a discussion about the synthesis of primaxin and the ferric wheel.
