The neglected tropical diseases

Article Abstract:

'Neglected tropical diseases' or NTDs such as lymphatic filariasis, leprosy, schistosomiasis and trachoma are largely unknown to Americans and Europeans, partly because they afflict only the poor in the tropical countries. Most of these diseases have powerful, low-cost preventive or curative interventions that are easy to administer and can be controlled worldwide by providing funding equivalent only to a few days' worth of military spending.
