The never-ending understorey: hooded warblers nest in the shrubby vegetation that fills gaps created by windfalls in old-growth woodlands

Article Abstract:

Hooded warblers are found in eastern North America's deciduous forests. An alarm has been raised in Canada because of the declining population and its dwindling habitat. The serious danger to hooded warblers in Ontario is the continued destruction of the forests.

No golden future: the golden paintbrush's specialized habitat makes it an increasingly rare sight in Canada

Article Abstract:

The golden paintbrush (Castilleja levisecta) is a Canadian wildflower so named for its leaf-life bracts that resemble green paint-tipped brushes. The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada called the plant a threatened species in 1995.
