The rich and other Americans

Article Abstract:

The social, economic and historical forces at work in the distribution of wealth in the United States are examined. America has approximately half of the world's 590 billionaires. The wealthiest one percent of Americans controlled 36 percent of wealth as of 1998, an increase of 20 percent since 1976. This increase was brought about largely because of economies of scale made possible my advances in information technology. Minorities in the US, particularly African Americans, continue to be hindered disproportionately by social barriers against equal access.

The progress of love: Americans are discarded taboos against mixed unions

Article Abstract:

Legal marriages between African Americans and white people accounted for only 0.7 percent of all marriages. The obstacle has been the repudiation of intermarriage by African American people who view it as an expression of racial disloyalty.

The crystal crisis

Article Abstract:

A survey analysis by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAMHSA) found that the proportion of meth users abusing or becoming dependent rose from 11 percent in 2002 to 22 percent in 2004. The larger quantities of the drug are becoming available in the East as organized gangs become more involved in marketing and as the ancient labs find pseudoephedrine more difficult to obtain.
