The quest for water from biblical times to the present

Article Abstract:

Water is a potential source of conflict in the Middle East due to pressure on resources from population growth, pollution and drought. Drought has depleted resources from rivers Euphrates and Nile. Middle Eastern countries draw resources from a common aquifer. The Gulf states largely rely on desalinated water. Strategic protection of water resources is likely to become an overriding priority. Discussion of water-supply is on the agenda for the Middle East peace talks. However, delays could promote international tension.
