The world's treasures: it's easier to identify them than to protect them

Article Abstract:

Modern technology has given greater access to wondrous places worldwide, but protecting them from industrial enterprise and air pollution remains a problem. UNESCO has adopted the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and National Heritage, the terms of which are endorsed by 158 countries, including Canada.

Winners and losers in wilderness protection grades

Article Abstract:

British Columbia and Nova Scotia each got an A from the Canadian Nature Federation and World Wildlife Fund's Endangered Spaces Progress Report for establishing the most number of protected area networks. The federal government got a C while New Brunswick and Ontario each got an F.

Bison will still roam in Wood Buffalo home

Article Abstract:

The Canadian National Federation has finally succeeded in protecting bison herds in the Wood Buffalo National Park. The government has rejected the Northern Diseased Bison Environmental Assessment Panel's proposal to destroy the herd and replace them with disease-free wood bison.
