Article Abstract:

Computer-aided-design (CAD) tools and their applications in the automobile industry are presented. The extended application coverage of the CATIA/CADAM Version 4 Release 1.6 software allows desktop drafting on Windows NT with the Sketchit dynamic sketcher. This enables the user to input drawings by free-hand while the system dynamically creates fully constrained parametric geometry. Meanwhile, the computer aided rapid prototyping project of Ricardo and Delcam has resulted into its application in stereolithography, laminated object manufacture, fused deposition modelling, selective layer sintering and solid ground curing.
