Article Abstract:

Ferrous powder metallurgy (PM) production rose by over 50% between 1991 and 1994 due to advances in technology. Conventional sintered parts reached sales totalling $1.5 billion. This figure came from sales of small components for the automobile industry such as gears, camshafts and pulleys and from the production of powder high speed steel tools for the manufacturing sector. These include punches, dies, forming rolls, plastic injection moulds and compacting tools. Carpenter Technology Corp. develops and markets new grades of PM tool steels.
