To send data, physicists resort to quantum voodoo

Article Abstract:

Researchers hope study of a well-known quantum-mechanical paradox will lead to new means of data transmission and other applications. Researchers have observed that measuring the internal quantum state of one particle affects that of the particle that had been created simultaneously with the first.

Rare sightings beguile physicists

Article Abstract:

Unexpected, unreplicated particle collision events have been recorded at Fermilab's Tevatron accelerator and CERN's Large Electron-Positron Collider (LEP) that defy explanation by the Standard Model. They include a possible pair of supersymmetric particles and anomalous Z-particle decay.

Mastering nature's strong force

Article Abstract:

One research effort that is proving the existence of glueballs, the particles that bind quarks together to form protons and neutrons, involves lattice quantum chromodynamics predictions. Another glueball project relies on particle accelerator data.
