Trade wars: Internet business for manufacturers has already arrived

Article Abstract:

The Internet e-commerce business-to-business market is set to reach over $1 trillion by 2002, dramatically overtaking business-to-consumer web investments. While the manufacturing industry has been slow to adopt the new technology, a wide range of opportunities is emerging for Internet-based business and information sharing. Swedish bearings supplier SKF is pioneering Endorsia.com, an Internet-based intranet network for industrial goods and services which has been rolled-out to 37 distributors in Finland and will be expanded to other European countries.

Start-up technologies

Article Abstract:

Few new ideas produced by research organisations, universities and others become translated into products and support for technology transfer is often ineffective, according to a study by Dr Jeremy Holland of the London-based Centre for Exploitation of Science and Technology (CEST). The report suggests that small- and medium-sized enterprises should first seek help from organisations such as Business Links and calls for the creation of a national technology advisory database.
