Transient creep strain of a fiber-reinforced metal-matrix commposite under transverse loading

Article Abstract:

A quantitative model for studying the transverse creep behavior of a fiber-reinforced metal-matrix composite under transverse loading conditions is discussed. The stress distribution and transverse creep behavior of a borsic/aluminum composite are obtained using the model's variations of Mori-Tanaka's mean-field theory. Results calculated from this approach show a strong agreement with experimental data.

Damage of short-fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites considering cooling and thermal cycling

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that short-fiber-reinforced metal-matrix-composite (MMC) exhibits damage upon cooling, thermal cycling, and tension, which results in changing the failure modes of MMC. Data also indicate that the coefficient of thermal expansion mismatch plays a critical role in eliciting a high residual stress distribution during the cooling process.

Identification of material constants of composite laminates using measured strains

Article Abstract:

Research describes the methodology for evaluation of material constants of laminated composite structures. Data indicate that the procedure is applicable to a number of laminated composite cylindrical pressure vessels and other types of structures.
