University-industry technological collaboration in Singapore: emerging patterns and industry concerns

Article Abstract:

A synthesis of empirical data from national R&D surveys as well as three surveys of industrial firms in Singapore has been conducted to create a profile of the emerging trend in university-industry technological cooperation. The study, which highlights the major concerns as seen from the point of view of industry, was able to create a list of the important public issues that must be addressed by the policy makers in the universities and in the government if they are to succeed in the future.

Competitive strategies of Asian high-tech firms: The challenge of late-industrialization

Article Abstract:

Companies from Taiwan, Korea, China, Singapore, and India have become major global high-technology firms competing aggressively for market dominance and technological leadership against their more established rivals from USA, Europe, and Japan. The various disadvantages and hurdles that new entrant firms from late-industrializing economies face in trying to compete in global high-technology industries pioneered by firms from the advanced economies are described.

Emerging digital technology as a window of opportunity and technological leapfrogging: Catch-up in digital TV by the Korean firms

Article Abstract:

The leapfrogging thesis with the case of the catch-up in digital TV by the Korean firms is examined. To secure the initial market size, the Korean targeted the U.S market from the beginning, and their sources for competitive advantages were the speedy setting up the production system for mass production of products at the initial stage.
