Cadmium reactivity in metal-contaminated soils using a coupled stable isotope dilution-Sequential extraction procedure

Article Abstract:

Four cadmium-contaminated soils are investigated using isotopic dilution methods. Results indicate possible limitations of sequential extraction procedures. Accompanying charts and graphs provide additional statistical data.

Metal accumulation by aquacultured seedlings of indian mustard

Article Abstract:

Indian mustard seedlings grown in aerated water were used in a rhizofiltration method to determine the mechanism of their ability to remove toxic metals, such as Cadmium (Cd), from water. Results indicate that Cd accumulation, as well as that of the other heavy metals, is enhanced in the absence of competing ions. It was also found that the total amount of phytochelatins, which are binding peptides enabling a plant to be resistant to such heavy metals as Cd, increase as a plant's Cd exposure increases.
