Article Abstract:

Programmable microelectronic devices offer advantages over conventional methods of controlling automated equipment. They allow quicker and inexpensive changes in designs and aid companies to respond rapidly to customer requirements. A survey published in New Electronics shows that industries in the UK lack awareness of the technology and even companies using microcontrollers are not aware of the advances. To promote widespread use of the technology, the Department of Trade and Industry has launched the Microelectronics in business program in 1994.

The support and management of user computing in the 1990s

Article Abstract:

The recognition of importance of end-user computing capabilities among employees has spurred additional training investments from companies. Businesses have moved from in-house training, as exemplified by the establishment of Information Centers, to outsourcing the training as the need to recover costs is balanced against the advantages of computer training in employees. Current advances in training software is expected to shift the training responsibility to the employees themselves.
