Virginia DOT plans beltway toll lanes

Article Abstract:

Department of Transportation (DOT), Virginia working with Fluor Corporation, of Aliso Viejo, California under the state's Public-Private Transportation Act (PPTA) on a plan would add two high-occupancy/toll (HOT) lanes to the Virginia portion of the Beltway in each direction and focus on the most heavily traveled portions of the beltway. This lane will operate based on an electronic tolling system.

Agencies collaborate to monitor the earth

Article Abstract:

Efforts made by environmental agencies from various countries to form Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) in order to coordinate resource management on a global scale are described. GEOSS would study and monitor the earth's air, water, and land in an effort to give researchers and monitoring organizations a better understanding of interactions.

Twin tunnels to bring drinking water to Vancouver

Article Abstract:

The construction on a pair of tunnels that would transfer water between two sources as part of a larger project to provide high-quality drinking water to more than 750000 residents in the area of Vancouver, British Columbia is described. The tunneling project would begin with a 185 m deep vertical shaft at the Seymour end.
