Article Abstract:

Design and construction of a hybrid moment frame consisting of a combination of posttensioning steel strands and grouted mild steel is discussed. The new hybrid framing system streches elastically during earthquakes and protects the beams and columns from any structural damage.

Water resources: Corps emphasizes sustainability in its five-year plan

Article Abstract:

The 'Civil Works Strategic Plan' for 2004 through 2009 is devised by the Department of the Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This plan has five goals pertaining to protection and restoration of the environment against the needs of the shipping industry with regard to its domestic projects.

New transit center design to let the sun shine in

Article Abstract:

The $750-million New York City transit project includes a large steel-framed, glass-clad dome that transmits light to subway platforms two and three levels beneath the street. This project is aimed at functionally upgrading some of Manhattan's busiest subway lines.
