What can be done to stanch the flood of junk e-mail messages?

Article Abstract:

Junk correspondence in the form of unwanted commercial solicitations constitutes more than two thirds of all e-mail transmitted over the Internet, accounting for billions of messages every single day. Various techniques used by the engineers to differentiate between valid messages and spam messages are described.

There is a body of work that suggests that science is doomed to fade, since a cycle of decline is inevitable. Oswald Spengler's 'The Decline of the West' is the seminal work in this field. Albert Einstein's 1918 paper 'Principles of Research' sets out a linearist response to the criticism of cyclicists.
