Article Abstract:

Soil Machine Dynamics has become one of the world's leading manufacturers of systems for the subsea burial of pipelines and cables. The company developed the Nereus cable maintenance remotely operated vehicle which can operate at depths of 2,000 meters. It has also begun producing shipboard control systems as well as deployment and recovery systems for its seabed operating vehicles which include handling equipment for laying and retrieving submarine cables.

Article Abstract:

Royston Engineering Group Ltd survived the decline of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England's marine industry in the 1980s and early 1990s through expansion and entry into new markets. The company, for instance, formed a joint venture with WSK PZL-Rzeszow SA to supply marine power generation equipment and invested in new facilities to improve its engineering capabilities in addition to its core activity of providing diesel engineering services to shipping firms.

Hydraulic control system manufacturer Bewick Engineering has experienced considerable growth since its establishment in 1984. The company has developed new integrated hydraulic control systems for floating production storage and offloading vessels. It will also create a system for a rolling mill at British Steel's new plant and has obtained a 400,000 pounds sterling contract to develop a hydraulic control system for Kvaerner.
