Wrapping paper

Article Abstract:

Reprographic equipment maker Xerox Corp. is tackling the problem of reducing packaging waste with its 'Packaging Free Products' project. The system, launched as a result of pressure from international legislation, means that the company has dispensed will all packaging for its products made in Europe. Instead, a system of completely returnable packaging has been developed which eliminates all waste and reduces inventory holding. Meanwhile, packaging concern Vale-Pak uses the Kartopack system that transforms paper-based waste into a flexible package-padding material.

It aims to cover 80% market requirements with up to forty controllable parameters and uses engineering body Design Engineering Research Centre designs. Stereolithography modelling techniques were used to develop the plastic moulds.
