Interventions to prevent pneumonia among older adults

Article Abstract:

This article examines interventions used to prevent the development of pneumonia in geriatric patients. Interventions including the use of drugs to facilitate swallowing and coughing reflexes, improved oral hygiene, the prevention of cerebrovascular disorders, and infection-control measures help to prevent the development of pneumonia due to aspiration in geriatric patients.

Capsaicin troche for swallowing dysfunction in older people

A study examining whether oral capsaicin troche supplementation with every meal upregulates the impairment of upper respiratory protective reflexes such as swallowing reflexes and the cough reflex among elderly is presented.
