Assessing the impact of neuropsychiatric symptoms in Alzheimer's disease: the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Caregiver Distress Scale
Article Abstract:
The Neuropsychiatric Inventory Caregiver Distress (NPI-D) Scale may be beneficial in identifying psychological distress among caregivers of Alzheimer's patients. NPI-D and its parent scale, the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) were used on 85 Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers. The NPI-D ratings were strongly correlated with the Relatives' Stress Scale. Agitation, dysphoria, delusions and irritability were most likely to cause caregiver distress.
