Patterns of care in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease: impediments to timely diagnosis

Article Abstract:

Lag in diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been investigated in a study based on a self-administered mail questionnaire of 1480 caregivers of AD patients. Topics include time from initial symptoms to problem recognition, time from problem recognition to consultation with a physician, first signs of Alzheimer's disease, factors tat prompted or impeded physician consultation, and diagnosis by first physician.

Prediction of on-road driving performance in patients with early Alzheimer's disease

Article Abstract:

A study of the data and ratings furnished by neurologists on the driving performances of individuals indicate early signs of Alzheimer's disease in some cases. Consequently, the presence of Alzheimer's disease can be observed from the driving performance of patients.

Genetic testing has no place as a routine diagnostic test in sporadic and familial cases of AlzheimerEs disease

Article Abstract:

The questions and dilemmas about genetic testing in Alzheimer's disease that physicians encounter in their daily practice are reviewed. The situations in which symptoms are already manifest, rather than risk-prediction of future cases is concentrated.
