Associations between early experiences with parents and well-being in old age

Article Abstract:

The association between early experiences with parents and well-being in old age was assessed from an interview survey of 267 elderly community residents aged 65 to 74 years. Dependent variables considered were standard measures of health, self-esteem, anxiety, depression and loneliness. Caring of parents was measuredthrough a retrospective questionnaire. Results showed that the quality of parenting affected the well-being of elderly persons. Well-being was strongly affected by the lack of an attachment figure in the form of an affectionate partner especially in unattached older men.
