Dementia and race: are there differences between African Americans and Caucasians?

Article Abstract:

This article examines differences in the prevalence and causes of dementia among Caucasian and African American patients. Research indicates that there are significant differences in genetic risk factors between groups and that African Americans have a higher incidence of vascular dementia and a lower incidence of Parkinsonian dementia when compared to Caucasians.

Racial differences in the cost of treating men with early-stage prostate cancer

Article Abstract:

This article compares the costs associated with the care and treatment of prostate cancer in White and African American patients over sixty-five years of age. Findings indicate that costs of radiation therapy and radical prostatectomy are greater for African American patients than White patients.

Cardiovascular disease risk factors among older Black, Mexican-American, and White women and men: an analysis of NHANES III, 1988-1994

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between ethnicity and cardiovascular disease risk in a sample of Mexican American, White, and Black adults over the age of sixty-five. Findings indicate that older Mexican American and Black women and older Black men had the highest risk for developing a cardiovascular disease.
