Cognitive decline in high-functioning older persons is associated with an increased risk of hospitalization

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine hospital use for patients with evidence of cognitive decline indicative of early cognitive impairment. The specific memory tests were not associated with hospitalization but high-functioning older persons who experienced decline in overall cognitive function were more likely to be hospitalized.

Increases in serum non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol may be beneficial in some high-functioning older adults: MacArthur studies of successful aging

Article Abstract:

The association between the changes in serum non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the risk of adverse health outcomes in high-functioning older adults are examined. The increase in cholesterol affects not only the mortality but also on the functional status of the elderly adults.
