Comparison of brain natriuretic peptide and probrain natriuretic peptide in the diagnosis of cardiogenic pulmonary edema in patients aged 65 and older

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of usefulness of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and amino-terminal fragment BNP (proBNP) for diagnosing cardiogenic pulmonary edema in elderly patients above 65 years of age is presented. It may be recalled that symptoms of CPE and respiratory causes of dyspnea are quite alike so it becomes necessary to differentiate them. It is concluded that BNP is more useful in diagnosing CPE than proBNP.

Subcutaneous infusion or hypodermoclysis: a practical approach

Article Abstract:

Hypodermoclysis, subcutanous infusion, is used to treat moderate dehydration of older patients. It is a painless, simple, and safe infusion technique with minimal health risks. The advantages of hypodermoclysis and its correct use are included. Most importantly, hypodermoclysis is not dependent on hospital use and can significantly lower health care costs.

Outcome of older patients requiring ventilatory support in intensive care: impact of nutritional status
