Low airloss hydrotherapy versus standard care for incontinent hospitalized patients

Article Abstract:

A low airloss hydrotherapy bed may not prevent pressure sores in incontinent hospitalized patients. The Clensicair bed incorporates a fast-drying, permeable sheet and an integrated cleansing system for cleaning patients and the bed and keeping moisture away from skin. Researchers compared the bed with standard beds, such as foam mattresses and air beds, in 116 hospital patients with urinary or fecal incontinence. Both patients and nursing staff were largely dissatisfied with the bed, and 48% of patients using the new bed developed new bedsores, compared to 14% of patients in standard beds.

The impact of legislation on psychotropic drug use in nursing homes: a cross-national perspective

Article Abstract:

Limiting the use of psychotropic drugs in nursing homes has not necessarily reduced the risk of falling, according to a study of nursing homes in the US and five other countries that have no restrictions on psychotropic drug use. Patients in Italy, Iceland, and Japan were less likely to fall and those in Sweden and Denmark were more likely to fall.
