Mixed trends in population health among older adults

Article Abstract:

The concept of health of the elderly has become complex and studies show a mixed trend in the population. The concept now covers several dimensions including the environment and how these dimensions interrelate. The state of health thus includes self-assessment and the ability to perform activities of daily living, independently or otherwise. Ability levels are also affected by changes in the physical environment such as the placement of rooms and the accessibility of necessities such as food and clothing.

The last half-century of aging research - and thoughts for the future

Article Abstract:

The quality of research conducted by social scientists studying late life and aging has improved tremendously during the past few decades. However, there are certain shortcomings in the approach of the scientists, such as ignoring social and cultural changes and history. Multidisciplinary researches are rare, with very few outlets for publication. There is a need to broaden knowledge and scholarship bases, which would enable research tests to become more interesting and stimulating.

The next half-century of aging research - and thoughts for the past

Article Abstract:

A retrospective analysis of the gains made in aging research is presented. While the field of gerontology has focused on the 'life course perspective,' this has failed to structurally and experientially explain the interrelationships between work, family and leisure. Thus, the challenge for gerontology in the next 50 years is to provide a satisfactory analysis of the interaction of these three factors and how they affect aging and the life course.
