Mobility difficulties and physical activity as predictors of mortality and loss of independence in the community-living older population

Article Abstract:

A population-based, prospective study has been carried out in Finland to find out about the interaction of physical activity and mobility impairment as a predictor of dependence and mortality. Mobility difficulties were found to predict mortality and dependence. Among those with impaired mobility, physical activity was associated with lower risks, but the risk did not differ based on activity level in those with no mobility problems.
