Practical intelligence at work: relationship between aging and cognitive efficiency among managers in a bank environment

Article Abstract:

The Tacit Knowledge Inventory for Managers (TKIM) appears to be a better predictor of performance among bank managers than two psychometric measures of reasoning, the Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices and the Verbal Reasoning subtest of the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT). In a study of 200 bank managers aged 24 to 59 years old, TKIM was found to be a predictor of managerial skill, while DAT and Raven's were not. A relationship between lower performance and increased age was noted in Raven's and the DAT.
