Exploring sex differences in the relationship between depressive symptoms and dementia incidence: prospective results from the PAQUID study

Article Abstract:

An analysis is presented of data obtained from the 1988 French study on normal and pathological aging to determine risk factors for dementia in depressed elderly men and women. Results indicate a correlation between proximal symptoms of depression and dementia in men, but the influence of vascular depression on dementia risk for this population is also considered.

The tumor necrosis factor alpha-308G>a polymorphism is associated with dementia in the oldest old

Article Abstract:

The aim of the study is to test the hypothesis that the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) -308 G>A promoter gene polymorphism is a risk factor in age-related dementia and longevity. The results suggested that the TNF -308 GA genotype was associated with lower prevalence of dementia than the GG genotype in centenarians.
